Le Sigh

If there's any one person I could be for a day, it would surely be Charlotte Gainsbourg:
gentle demureness, impeccable style, and unbelievable heritage a perfect French girl makes.
Charlotte recently released her second album in which she collaborated with Beck, and I have yet to get my hands on it. Flaunt wrote a wonderful piece about Charlotte's inspiration and why this record is so different from her first.

"The Magnetic Resonance Imaging machinery engulfs the patient in alarming sounds that spin in circles, flashing past the ear drum, appearing above and below in almost marine-like fluctuations, as if replicating a life lived inside a clamourous alarm clock on the verge of malfunction-underwater."
"But with those sounds... when I first thought about putting them in a song, it was more about the energy and the wildness of it, and the disturbances, of course. But there was also something very agitated that I liked. It didn't frighten me. It wasn't to talk about that fear."

So in conclusion: le sigh.
Can't wait to hear the record and pretend to be French for a short while...

Classic Beauty

I know we all love the classic beauties and find them so inspiring. I prefer to surround myself with classic clothing/decor/furniture/etc,etc that embraces the 21st century. My bathroom alone is a mini shrine to my classic inspirations to likes of Audrey, Marilyn, and Vivien Leigh.

I'm always looking for inspiration, so I decided to compile some sources and share them with you!

1. Polyvore: Love. Love. Love. So many fashionable ladies {and men} have put together some gorgeous ensembles that are directly inspired by your favorite fashion icons. Below is a sample of some Audrey-inspired outfits:
2. Silent Sundays: If your taste is closer to the 1920s, then you'll love Ms. Rhiannon Leifheit's tumblr that is reminiscent of flipping through old family albums.
3. Dallas Shaw: I absolutely love her art {and would actually buy some if I had a job!!} and think she perfectly captures and balances classic and modern beauty. Check out her etsy shop for more pieces like these:
4. My Vintage Vogue: This is a great little site that offers a vast library of vintage magazine covers, fashion illustrations and clothes, and stars with style, among many other categories.

5. ModCloth: I'm sure most {if not all} of you know the wonders of ModCloth, but if not, you're welcome! This is an amazing source for retro/vintage fashion, decor, and accessories alike. They have awesome one-of-a-kind pieces for great prices {like the dress in my wishlist} -- you can't go wrong!

I hope some of these sources help you find your inner-classic beauty and inspire you to a new level! Just for good measure, these are two of my favorite "inspired by" pictures {Audrey and Marilyn, respectively}:

Inspired by: Twilight's Bella

InStyle has capitalized on their fabulous connections to explore the possibilities of Bella's wedding dress in the upcoming filming of Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight saga. I will say that I have read the famous {or infamous} series, but I have little interest in the movies, especially after the dreadful first attempt with Twilight! So I bring this little post to you, not with excitement for it being Bella's dress, but simply because I love love love looking at design sketches!! Here's a snippet that gives you and the designers a little insight into the dress inspiration:
In Eclipse, Bella's dress is described as an early 1900s design (which complements her antique engagement ring) with friend and Maid of Honor Alice Cullen's modern tweaks to the train and veil. "You look like you just stepped out of an Austen movie," Bella's mother says to the bride-to-be when she spies her in the gown in the final book, Breaking Dawn. "It's gorgeous! So graceful, so elegant."

Monique Lhuillier's take on a 1920's mermaid gown -- stunning!

Erin Featherston's high neck and puffy sleeves -- very etherial and whimsical!

Brian Reyes' 20th century Edwardian ivory silhouette -- I need a translator for this one!

Max Azria's vintage lace and peaked shoulders -- a real, live doily!

Prabal Agrung's modern train and low-cut back -- loving the red accents!

Christian Siriano's tiers and ruffles -- He's definitely got a future, beautiful!

Lela Rose's bustling details -- my first pick, so classy and chic!

Badgley Mischka's full-length sleeves and strong silhouette -- very dramatic!

Zac Posen's corseted statement -- over the top and fabulous!

Which are your favorites? I'm drawn to all things vintage with a modern twist, so my top three are Lela Rose, Prabal Arung, and Monique Lhuillier, respectively. They're all so beautiful and inspiring... Bella would be a lucky lady in any one of these!

Falling for Fall

Now that we only have one month left in the summer, I already have Fall on the mind! It's my favorite season after Spring, maybe because the colors are equally as vivid, just a couple shades darker. A while back I saved this picture from Mrs. French's blog Bliss as color inspiration for a Fall room. I really love how the burnt shades of burgundy and orange blend so easily with the ivory and grey. This combination screams Fall Harvest to me; it's the perfect balance of cool and warm tones that creates such an inviting atmosphere. My love for grey is no secret by now and I think it serves as the perfect foundation to transition from a Summer pallet to a Fall pallet. With such a neutral base, it's easy to take a room from season to season just by changing the accent colors.

I also love how you can create casualness or luxuriousness in a room simply by playing with the richness of the grey and silver tones -- I really like both!

Grey+Yellow: UPDATE!

Ahhh, so I found a couple of grey and yellow inspiration images from the lovely photographer Anna Wolf.

I'm a huge believer of fashion as inspiration for architecture and interior design. I have a ton of pictures in an folder just to serve as room inspirations. One of these days I'm going to take the time to do the Domino "Outfit to Room" features because they're my favorite!

For now, just enjoy these pretty images from Anna! She's a favorite of mine, so I'm always on the look out for a little inspiration coming from her direction. She even has a blog, so check it out!
